Education and work opportunities
The “Becas Sociales” (Social Scholarships) program is another important initiative. Together with the Cámara Nacional de Comercio (National Chamber of Commerce), and the Servicio Nacional de Capacitación, SENCE (National Training Service), Cencosud offers training courses in different departments, such as, Cake Baking, Bakery and Ready Meals, Stock Replenishment, Cashier Operation and Customer Service Techniques to its female or male workers who are more than 18 years old, unemployed, housewives or low qualified, among others.
At the same time, the company promotes job placement for mentally disabled children. From 1998, students from Colegio Diferencial Rotario Paul Harris have been doing their work practice in the food court of Florida Center shopping center.
Additionally, the company offers flexible jobs to elderly people who work weighing products and at the checkout counters in all the Jumbo hypermarkets.
