The Environment
Biodegradable bags take about two years to decompose into elements which are not harmful to the environment, as opposed to the 200 years a conventional plastic bag would take to disintegrate. The implementation of biodegradable bags becomes part of the "Calidad de Vida" (Quality of Life) program launched by Jumbo in the year 2005. This program has been responsible for various projects, such as "5 es Vida" (5 is Life), cardboard, paper and plastic recycling, international certifications on the quality of their productive and operational processes and various other projects which seek a decrease in the use of packing material.
